2000 Fylde Falstaff | ||||||||||||||
Fylde Guitars, Penrith, Cumbria, EnglandSitka Spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck Scale length: 648mm Tunings: almost exclusively Open C - CGCGCE Headway HE-1 FEQ pickup This instrument has a non-standard top, as the Falstaff is usually made with white Engelmann spruce. I lilke the balance this guitar has between the clarity of spruce and still some of the warmth more typical of a cedar-topped instrument. I usually string it with either D'Addario EJ19 Bluegrass strings, which have a light gauge treble and medium basses, to help with open tunings. If I can get them, I love this guitar with Thomastik-Infeld's Plectrum 13 set, with an incredible .061" bottom string, great for open C. It also has non-standard brass bridge pins which I added myself, which I think help the sustain as well as being much handier to change strings quickly on the road. It's a big, grand, deep guitar, with a longer than average scale length, which again helps the open tunings. As I received the gift of another guitar last year, I sold this instrument in 2009. Better that it's played than sitting in my cupboard most of the time! |
